Festivals of the area - July
Urta
Festival de Rota (last weekend in July):
This festival celebrates the most popular fish of Rota, the
urta (rockfish). As well as stalls selling urta dishes of
every kind, there is also dancing, a large funfair and live
music.
Dia del Virgin de Carmen - Puerto del Santa Maria (16 July):
The image of this seaside town’s patron saint is paraded
through the streets before the local fishermen take her out
to sea for a blessing. Plenty of festivities around the town.
Jazz Festival de Sanlucar (dates vary – mid July):
A series of popular open air jazz concerts held around Sanlucar
over a three day weekend, featuring Spanish and international
jazz groups and soloists.
Jazz Festival del Puerto de Santa Maria (dates vary –
mid July):
A series of popular open air jazz concerts held around El
Puerto de Santa Maria over a three day weekend, featuring
Spanish and international jazz groups and soloists.
Classical and popular concerts in the Alcazar, Jerez (throughout
July and August):
Held in the grounds of the 13th century Alcazar, these popular
concerts feature a wide range of music, from pop to folk to
classical.
Flamenco Jueves y Flamenco Viernes (from the end of July
and throughout August):
Every Thursday (Jueves) night in Cadiz and every Friday (Viernes)
night in Jerez, these open air Flamenco concerts begin on
the last Thursday/Friday in July and continue to the end of
August. Featuring famous singers, guitarist and dancers.
Noches en los Jardines del Real Alcazar (throughout July):
This series of music concerts, some classical, some contemporary
music is held in the beautiful gardens of the royal palace
of Sevilla. These concerts run throughout July.
