Festivals of the area - August

Kite surfing near VejerFiesta de la Virgen de las Nieves – Arcos de la Frontera (early August –dates TBC):

To celebrate their local patron saint, the people of Arcos hold a famous open air Flamenco concert in their beautiful main square.

Carreras de Caballo - Sanlucar (12 – 14 August and 27 – 29 August 2009):

Famous throughout Spain for their unique atmosphere, these spectacular horse races along the river beach are very popular. In addition to the races there is a funfair and stalls for food, drink and dancing.

Moscatel Festival in Chipiona (dates TBC, mid August):

This 3 day festival celebrates the sweet Moscatel wine made in this area. As well as tasting and competitions, there are stalls with food, drinking and dancing.

Classical and popular concerts in the Alcazar, Jerez (throughout August):

Held in the grounds of the 13th century Alcazar, these popular concerts feature a wide range of music, from pop to folk to classical.

Flamenco Jueves y Flamenco Viernes (throughout August):

Every Thursday (Jueves) night in Cadiz and every Friday (Viernes) night in Jerez, these open air Flamenco concerts feature famous singers, guitarist and dancers.

Noches en los Jardines del Real Alcazar (throughout August):

This series of music concerts, some classical, some contemporary music is held in the beautiful gardens of the royal palace in Sevilla. These concerts run throughout August.
